Polypropylene vacuum formed packs are possibly one of the most visible, versatile and protective forms of packaging. There is no limit to what this packaging product can provide, from liquids to loose granular products, to hard surface objects. They are generally totally self contained with either graphics applied directly to the surface through flexography or adhesive labels attached to the packs. There are pre-existing pack formats or the designer can create some exceptional new shapes. These packs can hold liquids (from oil to detergent to cleaning solutions to paint), all forms of apparel (more upmarket than the blister pack), food-stuffs, DVDs, jewelry, toys, tools, cameras, optical and computers. To design such packaging the designer requires an understanding of the properties of polypropylene, marketing and aesthetics and a command of 3D graphics to showcase the ideas for sign-off.
